These photographs of albatross chicks were made in September, 2009, on Midway Atoll, a tiny stretch of sand and coral near the middle of the North Pacific. The nesting babies are fed bellies-full of plastic by their parents, who soar out over the vast polluted ocean collecting what looks to them like food to bring back to their young. On this diet of human trash, every year tens of thousands of albatross chicks die on Midway from starvation, toxicity, and choking.

To document this phenomenon as faithfully as possible, not a single piece of plastic in any of these photographs was moved, placed, manipulated, arranged, or altered in any way. These images depict the actual stomach contents of baby birds in one of the world's most remote marine sanctuaries, more than 2000 miles from the nearest continent.

북태평양에 서식하는 알바트로스들이 새끼들을 위해 바다에서 먹을 것인 줄로 알고 인간이 버린 플라스틱 쓰레기들을 먹인 것. 매년 수만의 알바트로스 새끼들이 인간들이 버린 플라스틱들을 먹고 굶주림과 독성, 그리고 질식으로 죽는다고 한다.

사진에 보이는 플라스틱은 한 조각도 옮겨지거나 조작되거나 정돈된 것이 아니며 죽은 알바트로스 새끼들의 내장 부위에 그대로 있는 것을 촬용한 것이라 한다. 게다가 이 알바트로스의 성역으로 불리우는 서식지는 가장 가까운 대륙으로부터 2000마일이나 떨어진 곳이어서 더욱 충격적이다.
